  1. How do I contact Technical Support?

In most cases the answer to a technical support question can be found below. Otherwise, you may email Technical Support.

  2. What is Adobe Acrobat Reader?

Acrobat Reader is software that lets you view and print out high quality ebooks using your computer. It is commonly installed on new computers and on college campus networks, so you may already have it. Note that you may need to upgrade to a more recent version--in order for JBE Online Books ebooks to display properly you must use the version 7 or greater of the free Acrobat Reader program.

  3. How do I download and install Adobe Acrobat Reader?

To download the free Adobe Acrobat Reader, click here. Select the appropriate language and Platform (whether you use Windows 98 or Windows XP or Apple Macintosh and so on) and your connection speed (whether you use a dialup modem or faster internet connection). Follow the instructions that accompany Adobe Acrobat for software installation.

  4. When I tried to download the ebook, it opened in my web browser. Now what?

If your ebook opened in your web browser, then just save the file to your hard drive. In Internet Explorer, go to the "File" menu, then select "save as" and save the ebook to your computer. Internet Explorer allows viewing of Adobe Acrobat files, but we recommend opening the ebook using Adobe Acrobat for easier navigation and sharper text. If another program, such as Internet Explorer, continues to try to open when you click on the ebook, try right clicking and open the ebook using Adobe Acrobat.

  5. Can I use previous versions of Adobe Acrobat? My computer already has Adobe Acrobat--why do I need to upgrade?

JBE Online Books ebooks have been tested and work correctly on version 7 or greater of the free Adobe Acrobat Reader. You will need to perform an upgrade to Acrobat Reader version 7 or higher in order for JBE Online Books to display correctly. The current version of Adobe Acrobat is version 8.

  6. How large is the ebook? How long will it take to download?

EBook file sizes range from 5 MB to 10 MB. We estimate it will take approximately 10 to 30 minutes to download on a 56K dialup-modem, and about 1 or 2 minutes or less on a high-speed internet connection (cable-modem, DSL or similar broadband connection).

  7. When I click on a hyperlink, instead of going back to the page I was reading the software returns to the first page. What should I do?

This problem occurs when using earlier versions than Acrobat 7 (including Adobe's Ebook Reader). This problem can be solved by upgrading to the latest version of the free Acrobat Reader.

  8. The ebook seems to open in a web browser. What is going on?

Sometimes a web browser such as Microsoft Internet Explorer is set up to open ebooks. For best results, you should close your web browser and view the file using Adobe Acobat Reader.

  9. When I click on a hyperlink in the ebook, nothing happens. What should I do?

In order for hyperlinks to work properly you need the version 7 or higher of Adobe Acrobat. If you have a Macintosh computer, please refer to the next question for suggestions.

  10. But I have a Mac, which contains its own PDF viewer, known as Preview. Do I still need to install Acrobat Reader?

JBE Online Books ebooks will not function with Mac Preview. Download the free Acrobat Reader for Macintosh to read ebooks.

  11. How do I purchase an ebook?

Passwords are case-sensitive. Type your password exactly as it appears in the email you received. Try shutting down your web browser and restarting your browser if you experience difficulty logging on. You might try copying your password out of the email and pasting it into the password field to avoid typos. If you continue to experience problems, please contact support, below.

  13. I purchased the book and got an email receipt and was able to view the ebook. But I closed my browser and can't get back. Do I have to purchase another copy?

No. Return to the worldreligionsebooks.com store and log into your account your book will be in the downloads folder.

  14. I'm having trouble downloading. What should I do?

Before writing for help, please check some basics: Are you able to connect to the internet (has your internet connection stopped)? Can you visit a page such as www.google.com successfully? Please let us know the version of your operating system, the version of your web browser, and the version of Acrobat Reader on your system. Please send this information to get technical support.

  15. I'm getting an error message that says the ebook is "corrupted." What do I do?

Apparently there was a problem downloading the file. This may be due to anti-virus features on your university's computer network, or other reasons. Contact us and let us know you are unable to read the ebook and that your machine is reporting a corrupted file and we will send instructions on how to download the file again.

  16. Do I have to remember the password and enter it each time I want to read the book?

Yes and yes. If you want to read the ebook you need to enter the password. You may find it helpful to write the password down, or use a computer program that manages passwords for you.

  17. I lost my ebook, or my computer's hard drive failed, or a virus infected my computer and destroyed my ebook. What should I do?

We strongly recommend that you burn a CD copy of the ebook file after you download it so that you will have a backup copy in case the original suffers loss or damage. Human error, viruses, and other such problems can result in loss of the valuable information on your computer. You should keep a backup copy of all informaton on your computer and also use an anti-virus software regularly. We will, at our discretion, honor requests to replace any damaged or lost files for a period up to 7 days after purchase, after which you would be required to purchase a new copy.
