About the Author
Robert Ellwood is Distinguished Emeritus Professor of Religion at the University of Southern California. He received a Ph.D. in History of Religion at the University of Chicago in 1967, where he specialized in Japanese religion, writing a dissertation on certain Shinto rituals. He is the author or editor of some twenty-five books, including An Invitation to Japanese Civilization and a world religions textbook (now coauthored with Barbara McGraw), Many Peoples, Many Faiths. He lives in southern California.
